Here's a question to throw out to everyone. I'm just wondering if you are getting your family the swine flu shots, I'm so confused with all the information out there and just wanted to see what everyone else had decided. If you have an opinion or have decided please let me know.
We are not. I am concerened (especially with little kids) about what the side-affects could be. We are just going to stay indoors as much as possible and away from the sick!
if the flu was lethal or caused severe long term problems like polio did, i would have my family vaccinated in a heartbeat. But with all the bad stuff they put in the vaccination itself (formaldehyde, detergents, thermosol (which has 50% mercury which has proven to cause all sorts of heart & brain problems), I chose not to get the vaccine. With all those preserves in the vaccinations it's a no wonder alzeimers and other mental disorders are on the rise.
My nurse mother-in-law says no one in the health profession are doing it. Wait till the first batch of people get it and see what the side affects are.
That's a really good idea, Tawni! I was wondering if we should vaccinate too but I think now we will wait. My dad always told us growing up that if we wanted to go cliff jumping or do something else stupid with friends, to just not be the first idiot to do it. I think I will take his advice on this one too.
I was against it until my last OB appointment. She said that it is made the same as the other flu shot, with the H1N1 strand. So if you get the other flu shot, it is the same. It is not a new shot just as the flu shot is altered every year for the newest flu strands.
My cardiologist strongly recommends that everyone - mostly 6 months to 24 year olds, get it. The swine flu went around in the 70's, so many people have some immunity to it. But not young, healthy people - that is why they are dying from it.
I am getting it and I hope all of my young family members will too :)
Coming from this nurse...I will be getting a flu vaccine. Pregnant women are especially encouraged to get the vaccine (in fact, the CDC guideline is that pregnant women are first priority to receive the vaccine).
So far out of all confirmed H1N1 cases where I work over 60% of those patients have been pregnant women. Not good...H1N1 can be very serious for mom/baby. So, in my opinion, if you can prevent this then you should, especially if you are pregnant.
We got the vaccine(our whole family), & I would for sure since you are pregnant! I am with April on this on. Most health professionals that I work with have got the vaccine & strongly suggest it! The chances of you getting weird side effects or lasting effects from the shot is much less than you getting the H1N1 flu! H1N1 is much more common, they don't put much mercury in the shots anymore is what I have been told. You can try and stay home but anyone in your family could be exposed and bring it home all of you. It is important for your little baby inside you growing because they can't have a shot until they are 6 months old and this may help the baby if it is exposed to H1N1 early on before it is 6 months. I would FOR SURE get the shot!!
It sounds like mixed reviews. What are you going to do? I have no idea what to do because I swear when I talk to people it is the same, 50% are for it & 50% are against....what to do????
Funny you posted this because I have been thinking about this a lot lately. There is SO much info being thrown at me and it's coming at me from both the pro side and con side. It' WAY too confusing! It was interesting to see what others had to say. I'm going to talk with my OB about it at my next appt. this week, but I'm right there with you..very confused and sitting right on the fence not knowing which way to jump. Good luck! If you find out any good info, let me know! ~Chandi

Sid says it is a no for our family- the vaccine has actually killed people BUT so has the flu- so it is a toss up but a no from our family.
